STENT DELIVERY MECHANISM HAVING STENT SECURING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deliver an inflation expandable stent into the lumen of a vessel and to prevent the stent from shifting from or coming off a requested position on a catheter when expanded.

SOLUTION: A securing member coaxially mounted on the catheter 26 is fitted onto the periphery of the catheter directly below a balloon 14 to prevent a balloon material from being clamped between the stent and a protrusion or metal mounted to an inner shaft or guide wire lumen to deliver the stent. The securing apparatus is suitably and frictionally fitted to the stent to apply pressure to the stent so that the stent in the delivery diameter is secured into a suitable position on the catheter.
