<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, for sealing the opening of a container where a content is filled, a cover material which does not become wavy even when it is sterilized by boiling or by heating/pressurizing and which has a superior gas barrier characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: This cover material for sealing the opening of a container is made of a laminated body formed by laminating on one face of a base material layer (1) made of a transparent biaxially stretched nylon film an anchor coat layer (2), an inorganic oxide vapor deposition film layer (3), a gas barrier film layer containing at least a water soluble polymer and either (a) one or more kinds of metal alkoxide and its hydrolyzate or (b) chlorination tin, and a sealant layer (6) one after another.
