A process is provided for preparing substantially aqueous pigment pastes suitable for use in aqueous electrocoating compositions from pigment grind resins which are synthesized in non-aqueous solvent systems by employing a step to azeotropically remove the solvent prior to dispersion of the pigment grind resin in water. 19
