A liquid crystal display device is provided to have a diffusion layer in which a fluorescent material excited by light emitted from a point light source, thereby obtaining a uniform white planar beam. A plurality of point light sources(102) is arranged in a lower part of a liquid crystal panel(101). The point light sources supply light to the liquid crystal panel. A diffusion plate(103) is arranged between the liquid crystal panel and the point light source. A fluorescent substance pattern(104) is formed on one side of the diffusion plate so that the fluorescent substance pattern is divided by the second area and the first area corresponding to the point light source. The first area is thicker than the second area. The light point source is a blue LED(Light Emitting Diode) or an infrared light emitting diode.
