PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gain control system of novel structure and a gain control method, which allow for improvement of signal quality on the near end side, when performing acoustic echo cancellation.SOLUTION: A gain control system for applying a gain to a signal on the far end side includes signal identification means for detecting the echo of a signal on the far end side among the signals of a microphone, and transmission path estimation means for estimating the characteristics of the transmission path of a detected echo. The signal identification means further detects a signal on the near end side among the signals of a microphone, and a gain control system adjusts a gain applied to a signal on the far end side, depending on the estimated characteristics of the transmission path of the echo, in response to detection of the signal on the near end side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
