The device (1) has a laser source (5) provided with a laser (6) intended to generate a spatially and temporally coherent light, so as project a dynamic image on an external part i.e. fuselage of a mobile machine i.e. aircraft. A control unit (9) controls the laser source, and an electrical source (13) supplies electric power to the display device. An actuation unit e.g. button, is provided for an operator to act on the control unit for controlling the laser source. A protection system automatically acts on laser source, to limit power or prevent laser emission depending on current conditions. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying an image on an external part of a mobile machine i.e. aircraft.
