The engine has a cylinder (10) provided with a combustion chamber (14) in a longitudinal axis (XX). An exhaust unit (22) is provided with an exhaust manifold (24) that is controlled by an exhaust valve (26). Air intake channels (32), in which supercharged intake air is circulated, are opened in the chamber via openings (36). A variable closing unit (42) is provided with the engine for closing the channels. The closing unit includes a movable closed ring (44) that is rotated around the longitudinal axis of the combustion chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for sweeping residual gas flarings contained in a combustion chamber of a two-stroke type internal combustion engine.
