830,405. Screw-and-nut gearing. PRATT & WHITNEY CO. Inc. Jan. 23, 1956 [Feb. 9, 1955], No. 2140/56. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXII and XXXVIII] In screw-and-nut gearing for adding the rotations of the input wheels 75, 83 a central shaft 76 rotated by gear 75 drives a nut 77 along a thread while the shaft as a whole is moved axially by the input from gearing 83 which drives a threaded member 80, rotatable on shaft 76 but not able to move axially relative to it, in a fixed nut 82. Thus nut 77 is subject both to its motion relative to shaft 76 and the motion of the shaft as a whole. Gears 75 and 83 are elongated to permit this latter motion. A slotted disc member 85 is provided so that shaft 76 may be stopped when magnet 84 allows a member 86 to engage the slot. |
