PURPOSE: To enhance the catalytic effect of oxidation and reduction by depositing a catalytically effective amt. of a first rhodium catalyst on a zirconia support which has a specified amt. of ceria to prepare a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: A catalytically effective amt. of a first rhodium catalyst component is supported on a zirconia support coated with ceria by 0.1 to 15 wt.% based on the total weight of the zirconia and ceria to prepare a three-way conversion catalyst. Or, in another method, a first alumina support on which a platinum catalyst component is dispersed but no ceria is included, and an active alumina support containing an alumina-stabilized ceria support having a platinum catalyst component are compounded to obtain a three-way catalyst. Or, the catalyst may contain a second rhodium catalyst component dispersed on an alumina support. |
