1,082,929. Clamping work. PACIFIC PRESS & SHEAR CORP. June 2, 1965 [June 8, 1964], No. 23504/65. Heading B3W. A shear comprises a frame 11, a work-supporting table 3, a fixed cutter 7 and a reciprocating cutter 13 driven by hydraulic motors 12. The work is clamped against the table 3 by a hold-down 1 which comprises an inflatable tube 17 secured to a back-up member 16. The back-up member may be fixed to the machine frame in which case the tube 17 is inflated to clamp the work against the table. Alternatively the back-up member may be slidably mounted in its own ways and operated to move in advance of the upper knife, or it may be fixed to the ram of the machine with the hold-down tube carried thereby in advance of the upper knife to effect prior engagement with the work. When the back-up member is reciprocably mounted the tube is permanently inflated, or a solid strip of resilient material may be used.
|
