[Also in Division B5] An apparatus for tapering and, if desired, forming the ends of a metal or plastic bar includes a fixed support G carrying freely rotatable rolls 6a, 7a, 8a and 6b, 7b, 8b and a support S for a bar B, the support S being moved by a jack in the direction f to progressively taper the free ends of the bar by means of the rolls. Although the sides 1a and 1b of the support S are shown as being straight they may be suitably curved, if required. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), one end of a bar (B) is tapered by means of rolls (6-8), supported by a carriage (G) which is urged in direction (f) along guide rails (17). The work rolls, as before, progressively increase in diameter. By employing rolls of appropriate profile the ends of bars can be formed to a desired cross-section in addition to being tapered. |
