In a dishwashing machine in which the impeller 26 of a centrifugal pump 20 is rotated in one direction to circulate liquid over the dishes to be washed or rinsed, and is rotated in the opposite direction for removing the liquid to a drain 38 (Fig. 3, not shown) by a pump (32A), having an impeller 36 rotatable with the impeller 26, and, during draining of the liquid, air is vented from above the liquid level 19 through a pipe 40 into the housing 21 of the pump 20 to prevent noise due to cavitation and to the impact of the liquid on the pump impeller 26 and housing 21. |
