This invention relates to a process for producing carboxethanocin G represented by formula (II): (II) or carboxethanocin A represented by formula 9: 9 both expected to be useful as antiviral agent, and to cyclobutane derivatives represented by formula 5: 5 wherein P is a protecting group for hydroxyl group, which are intermediates for said carboxethanocins G and A.
