[Also in Division F1] An apparatus for dewatering sewage in which separated liquid is withdrawn through bar screen 21 and retractable hollow shaft 29, comprises a hollow casing 13, and a screw or rotor 18 for conveying and compressing the sewage before discharge into a furnace. Bar screen 21 is mounted on hollow shaft 29 so that the screen can be withdrawn into the cavity in screw or rotor 18 to reduce the effective filtering area of the screen. Bars of the screen 21 may be wedge shaped becoming narrower inwardly. The apparatus may be an axial flow rotary pump such as a screw or progressive cavity type pump.</p> |
