An aircraft propulsion jet nozzle 30 (40) (Fig. 5, not shown), is integral with the aircraft structure and comprises two sections 32 (and 33, Fig. 3, not shown), 42 and 43 which swing downwardly and outwardly to allow the propulsion jet to be directed downwardly, e.g. by rotatable sections 21, 22, 23 of the jet pipe. The nozzle may be either a fixed nozzle 30 or a variable area nozzle (40). The nozzle sections 32 (33), 42, 43 may comprise the lower quadrants of the nozzle wall and swing about hinges 35, 45 along their upper edges, neighbouring sections 12, 13 of the fuselage being similarly movable. The nozzle walls may be sealed along the hinges 35 by mating V-grooves and/or sealing strips 37. The variable area nozzle (40) may comprise a series of fingers, which have hollow walls 46, sealed by sealing strips 47. |
