<p>PURPOSE:To restrain wear of a carbon-containing refractory caused by oxygen blowing by arranging a specific size of slit-like gap in the carbon-containing refractory to be lined at upper space of molten material in a metallurgical furnace and blowing non-oxydizing gas from there at a specific flowing velocity. CONSTITUTION:Ore or scrap charged to the metallurgical furnace is reduced or melt-refined with combustion heat by blowing oxygen gas under existence of a carbonaceous material. The carbon-containing refractory having excellent corrosion resistance and spalling resistance is used as the lining in the above metallurgical furnace. In the above oxygen blowing metallurgical furnace, the slit-like gap having a length/width ratio of five or more is arranged on the carbon-containing refractory of the lining at the upper space of molten material. During operation of this metallurgical furnace, the non-oxydizing gas of nitrogen, etc., from the above gap is blown at the range of 3-35Nm/sec the flowing velocity. The surface temp. of the above refractory is lowered with this gas and oxygen partial pressure in the furnace is decreased. By this method, combustion of carbon content in the refractory with oxygen is prevented and wear of the carbon-containing refractory having excellent characteristic is restrained.</p> |
