[Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Composite textile articles, e.g. shirt collars, are heat bonded using an intermediate heatbonding element made by depositing a solution of a composition consisting of (a) a major proportion of a linear copolyamide, (b) at least 15 wt. per cent of an alkoxymethylated aminoplast precondensate and (c) an acidic catalyst in a solvent containing at least 60 vol. per cent of a C 1-4 alcohol on a textile support and removing the solvent. The support may be a woven, knitted or non-woven fabric and may be precoated with an elastomer latex. The composition may be applied by impregnation or spraying. Various polyamides, melamine- or ureaformaldehyde resins and organic and inorganic catalysts are mentioned. The solvent may be an aqueous alcohol optionally mixed with trichloroethylene. The polyamide may be plasticized, e.g. with N-ethyl toluene sulphonamide. In the example an aqueous ethanol solution of nylon 66/6/610, methoxymethylated melamine-formaldehyde and lactic acid is sprayed at 90 g./m.<SP>2</SP> on nylon 66 cloth, dried at 80‹ C. and heat bonded to outer layers of fabric under pressure at 170‹ C. for 3 to 4 seconds. |
