An endless passenger carrying belt supported by rollers or a conveyer belt supported on troughing rollers comprises a flexible material having a reinforcing layer of overlapping lengths of steel cord parallel to the belt run, which layer lies between a second and conventional reinforcing layer and the driving surface of the belt. The steel cords may extend across the belt or be at the sides only and may be made up of strands. The cords may be zinc plated and encased in a layer of natural rubber with a cobalt salt. The second reinforcing layer may be of cotton duck, woven or weftless natural and/or synthetic textile cords or metal cords which may be biased to the belt run axis. The flexible material of the belt may be vulcanized natural and/or synthetic rubber or synthetic resin, e.g. plasticized polyvinyl chloride. The non-driving surface of the belt may be of cotton duck. |
