Heading G4P. [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A valve suitable for logical apparatus comprises a ball 1, Fig. 1, movable between seats 2, 3 to connect an outlet 11 with either of a pair of passages 10, 12 in response to control signals applied to a diaphragm 5. The passage 10 connects with a pressure fluid source and the passage 12 with a lower reference pressure, e.g. atmosphere. Additional diaphragms, each responsive to a separate control signal, may be added below and/or above the diaphragm 5 to actuate the ball, and the latter may be replaced by a pair of balls between which are situated the seats and an interconnecting rod. In another arrangement a second ball and diaphragm assembly coaxial with and above the first is provided and sharing a common supply 10. A further form has three signal inputs terminating in ball non-return valves below the diaphragm. Fig. 13 shows an arrangement having a pilot valve 25 opened by a spring 39 and closed by control pressure admitted through a port 24 to a piston 23 in which the pilot valve is adjustable by a cap 22. Closure of the pilot valve causes pressure admitted through a connection 36 to depress a diaphragm 29 and actuate the main valve ball 31. A modification of this arrangement employs a diaphragm instead of the piston 23. In a further modification the pilot valve is carried by a pivoted arm acted upon by one or more diaphragms responsive to control pressure(s). |
