[Also in Division C2] Ziegler catalysts containing a Group VIII metal are employed in a process for producing aliphatic diamines from aliphatic nitriles with hydrogen under a presure of 1 to 500 atmospheres gauge and at a temparture of 50- 250‹C. Preferred catalysts contain Co or Ni in combinations with a compound having an Alalkyl bond. In most of the Examples the Ziegler catalyst is prepared in situ e.g. by mixing triisobutylaluminium with cobalt octoate optionally in the presence of tetruhydrofuran. Alternatively the catalyst may be prepared in advance e.g. by mixing triisobutylaluminium with cobalt hydroxide and heating to 150‹C. |
