[Also in Division F1] The jet pipe for a propulsion jet engine has sets of thrust deflecting vanes 80 at orifices in the jet pipe wall for deflecting the propulsion jet, and a nozzle (which may be a variable area nozzle comprising two flaps 30, 31) which, when the jet is deflected, is closed by clam shells 40, 41 which cover the vanes 80 when the nozzle is opened. The shells 40, 41 and flaps 30, 31 may pivot about a transverse axis 50, the flaps being moved by hydraulic actuators 60, 61, and the shells by actuators (70), Fig. 1 (not shown) acting via a linkage 72, 73, 74. The flaps 30, 31 and shells 40, 41 may be mounted on a common bearing support (51), Fig. 5 (not shown) which may be detachable from the jet pipe so that if links 62, 63, 73, 74 are also uncoupled, the flaps and shells can be removed without dismantling their assembly on the bearing support. |
