PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed lead-acid battery suitable for charge-discharge cycle use by filling lead powder in a clad type grid having tubes, immersing the grid in dilute sulfuric acid, and smoothing the surface by press-forming. CONSTITUTION:Lead powder is filled in a clad type positive plate having cylindrical tubes 7, and they are immersed in dilute sulfuric acid, then press-molded to form a smoothed surface part 8. At the same time, a positive active material is densified by this press-forming. The cross sictional shape of the tube is changed from a circle to a rectangle or an ellipse without almost on change in its circumference length and the tube volume is decreased. The density of the positive active material is thereby increased to 3.9-5.3g/cm<3>, and the capacity of a battery is equal to or more than that of a liquid type battery. A sealed lead-acid battery suitable for charge-discharge cycle use can be obtained. |
