A stabilizer composition for PVC comprises (a) a diorganotin mercapto carboxylic acid ester or precursors thereof having two C 1 -C 30 alkyl or cycloalkyl groups, one or two C 3 -C 60 alpha- or beta-mercaptoacid esters linked through the sulphur and not more than one other non- nitrogenous residue linked through oxygen or sulphur, (b) a divalent stannous salt containing chloride, bromide or non-nitrogenous organic groups linked through oxygen or sulphur and optionally (c) a diorgano tin oxide. In the examples are used (a) dibutyl or dioctyl tin bis isooctyl mercaptopropionate, dibutyl tin bis isooctyl thiolactate, dioctyl tin bis isooctyl thioglycollate, or a mixture of isooctyl thioglycollate with bibutyl tin oxide or diacetate or dibutyl thiomalate with dibutyl tin oxide, (b) stannous chloride, octoate, benzoate/octoate, oleate, t. octyl phenate, 2 - ethylhexyl mercaptide or stannous and calcium octoates or stearates, (c) dibutyl or dioctyl tin oxide. Other stabilizers may be added, e.g. phenols, phosphites, other tin compounds or mercaptides, thiolactic acid being exemplified. Other additives used in the examples are ABS resin, stearic acid, wax and mineral oil. |
