A sun visor for a motor vehicle comprises a frame 10 integrally moulded of plastics material, and a visor element 66 carried by the frame, the frame 10 including linkage portions 28, 30, 32, 34, 36 separated by hinging portions 29, 31, 33, 35 so that when the visor is assembled on the vehicle the linkage portions define a quadrilateral linkage, Fig. 3, a friction device 54 and 58 being associated with at least one hinging portion. As shown, the friction device comprises two projections 58 attached to the hinging portion 33, and a planar member 54, which may have ridges 64, integral with the linkage portion 32. A C- shaped clip is placed in the slot 56 to pinch the two projections 58 into frictional contact with the member 54. Each of the fasteners 40, 42 comprises an aperture 44 with three surrounding legs 46 projecting from one side of the linkage portion 28, there being a pin 50 projecting from the opposite side of the portion 28 and attached thereto by a shearable web. To assemble the sun visor on the vehicle, each linkage portion is folded, Fig. 3, with the portions 28 and 36 overlapping and the legs of the fastener 40 are passed through the aperture 52. The legs of each fastener are located in corresponding apertures in the vehicle body, and the pins 50 are knocked inwards to shear their webs, thereby passing through the apertures 44 to force the legs 46 radially outwards and grip the apertures in the vehicle body. The slot 62 enables the pins 50 to be readily accessible, and it is stated that any quadrilateral form of linkage other than parallelogram and which is adjustable as desired may be employed. |
