A cage for experimental animals has a rear wall 6 which is displaceable forwardly on guides 7 by handles 5 to confine animals against the front wall or force them into a transport cage 4 fitted to an opening in the front wall exposed by moving upwardly a centre section of the front wall. The three sections of the front wall are of grating form, each fronted by a transparent plastics pane which are movable vertically. The top of the cage has an exposable opening in which a food dispensing device may be fitted, said device, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), comprising a hopper (19) with a rotatable slotted drum (17) mounted below its outlet for dispensing a predetermined quantity of food, and a transparent viewing window. The transport cage has a front wall 9 which may be dropped, and a rear wall 10 which may be displaced in drawer like fashion by means of a handle 10<SP>1</SP> to force animals to leave the cage and a transparent roof panel 11, and is of a size to be accommodated in an associated anaesthetising cage. Below the grating floor of the main cage there is a droppings trough 1 lined with a removable bag. |
