A. Substd oxaphenanthridines of general formula (I): R = low alkoxy or hydroxy R'=H or low alkyl R"=H, low alkyl, low cycloalkyl, phenyl or phenyl low alkyl B. Non-toxic addition salts and quaternary ammonium salts of A. The new cpds. have tranquillising properties. 0.21 Mol formaldehyde as a 37% aqs. soln. was added dropwise over 15 mins. to 0.20 mol 2-(3-methoxyphenyl)tetrahydropyran-3-amine at 20 deg.C. The mixture was heated at 90-100 deg.C for 30 mins. and treated dropwise with 0.21 mol. conc. HCl. The mixture was cooled and the crystalline product filtered off to give 79% yield of 9-methoxy-1,2,3,4,4a,5,6,10b-octahydro-1-oxaphenanthridine hydrochloride. |
