1,211,126. Condensation of steam. BROWN, BOVERI & CO: Ltd. 6 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42515/68. Heading B1B. Steam (or other vapour), containing a small proportion of air, is condensed in a condenser comprising a plurality of tubes for the passage therethrough of cooling fluid, wherein the tubes are arranged in groups to define a main condenser part 11, a secondary condenser part 12 and an air cooler 13, each group being separated from the adjoining group(s) by a space 14, 15 devoid of tubes, and the secondary condenser part being arranged so that the cross-sectional area of the flowpath for the steam progressively decreases in the direction of steam-flow 6. The arrangement is such that the velocity of the steam through part 12 is about the same as the velocity of the steam leaving part 11; and that the air leaves part 11 with a partial pressure of 0.1% of the total pressure, and leaves part 12 with a partial pressure of about 1.0% of the total pressure. Alternative designs of condensers are exemplified wherein guide plates are fitted between the main part and secondary part of the condenser, and between the secondary part of the condenser and the air cooler.
|
