[Also in Divisions B1 and G3] A pug-mill for treating clay or chalk with a particle size predominantly of less than 75 Á (preferably less than 10 Á has an L/D ratio (i.e. screw length to barrel diameter) of between 4 and 10 (preferably 7À5), and the material is extruded through apertures of such a size that the energy absorbed by the material is greater than 40 H.P.-hour/ton (preferably 50- 150 H.P.-hour/ton). This is stated to increase the proportion of smaller particles in the material. The material is extruded through arcuate slots (4, Fig. 3, not shown) in a plate 2 and the size of these slots is controlled by rotation of a plate 11 with similar slots 13 by means of an hydraulic servomotor to maintain a constant power consumption (Fig. 2, not shown, or see Division G3).</p> |
