Each valve 30, 31, Fig. 4, is operated by a rocker 40, 41 actuated by a cam 20 on a cam-shaft through a cup-shaped tappet 60 mounted in a bore in the cylinder head C and the rocker axis is perpendicular to the axis of the valve and not parallel to the cam-shaft axis. The tappet axis is parallel to the common perpendicular to the cam-shaft axis and the rocker axis. The tappet 60 is provided with a connecting member 70 engaging the ball-shaped end of the rocker. The connecting member may be a dished plate (700), Fig. 6, (not shown), bearing against the open end of the cup-shaped tappet (60). Four rockers 40, 41, 42, 43, Fig. 8, actuating pairs of valves in a pair of adjacent cylinders are mounted on respective shafts supported at one end in a single bracket 71 bolted to the cylinder head, and at the other end by respective brackets 77, 84, 76, 83. The rockers are lubricated by oil supplied through passages 88 and 90, Fig. 10, in the cam-shaft 89, passage 92 in the cylinder head, passages 94, 97 and 100 in the bracket 71 and passages 101 and 102 in the rocker shafts.</p> |
