摘要 <p>Ethylene is oxidatively chlorinated principally to 1:2-dichlorethane by reacting ethylene, hydrochloric acid and either air or oxygen in the presence of particles of porous alumina coated with 1.5 to 8% of silicon and impregnated with 2 to 10% of copper and 0.5 to 4% of alkali metal. Comparative examples describe the oxidative chlorination of ethylene using 25% excess air, 12.5% excess HCl at 260 DEG C. in a fluidized bed.ALSO:Al2O3 particles coated with 1.5-8% SiO2 are impregnated with 2-10% Cu and 0.5 to 4% alkali metal to yield oxychlorination catalysts. Specified alkali metals are Na and K which may be affixed to the Al2O3 by use of N Na2SiO3 or K2SiO3 such that the requisite quantity of SiO1 is added simultaneously. The catalyst preferably has a surface area of 100-500 m2/gm and takes the form of spheres of 50 to 1500m diameter. The catalyst may be used in fluidised beds. In examples the SiO2-coated Al2O3 is sprayed with an aqueous HCl solution containing CuCl2 and KCl, before drying at 120 DEG C for 5 hours.</p>
