In a garment-pressing machine 10, the garment 13 is placed on an upright form 12 and a pressing chest 18 is then moved from a lower position below the form to an upper pressing position opposite the form. As shown, form 12 is accessible through an opening 15 in a hood 14 connected to an exhaust fan 17. The chest 18 comprises plates 20, 21 combined to form a steam cavity 22, plate 20 having a polished surface to engage the garment. A frame 28 comprises parallel sides (33) (Fig. 3, not shown) and 34 each carrying bearing tracks 38, 40 and upper and lower plates 35, 36. Chest 18 is pivoted to a carriage 44 is slidalbly mounted on track 38 and connected by a chain 71 passing over a sprocket 55 to frame 28. Sprocket 55 is carried on a shaft 54 mounted on the piston rod 53 of a fluid cylinder 51 carried on plate 36. Frame 28 is pivoted to the piston rod 76 of cylinder 75 which is connected to a shaft 78 mounted in bearings in a frame 11. In operation, with chest 18 in its lower position, skirt 13 is placed on form 12 then chest 18 is moved up by cylinder 51 and then tilted by cylinder 75 to press the front of the garment. Steam is emitted from form 12 and fan 17 is operated. |
