1,104,649. Averaging. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. 18 Nov., 1966 [27 Dec., 1965], No. 51660/66. Heading G4A. A stored average is updated by each of a succession of samples. The amplitude at each of a plurality of points on a waveform is sampled in turn, digitized and used to update a stored digital average of previous samplings of the same point, by subtracting the previous average from the new sample, dividing the difference by the number of samples (specified by a sweep counter) and adding the result to the previous average. The system performs a number of complete sweeps along the waveform, updating the averages for all the points used thereon, until terminated by a manual switch or at a predetermined count of the sweep counter. Alternatively, each sweep may be started manually. The digitizer may be dispensed with and analogue calculating circuitry replace the digital. |
