New yellow/orange dyes of formula:- (where R = alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; R1 = halogen, CN, alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, carbonamide or carbalkoxy opt. substd. n = 0-3) are obtained by reacting o-phenylenediamine deriv. with naphthalene carboxylic acids or anhydrides. Thus the dyestuff derived from 4-carbomethoxy-1:8-naphtha lenedicarboxylic acid and 3:4-diamino-anisole dyes polyesters fast yellow shades from aqs. acid or alkaline baths |
