An alkylatable material is alkylated in a reaction zone in the presence of an H2SO4-alkylation catalyst, by reaction of the catalyst with an olefin. Process comprises the following steps: a stream of olefin-contg. hydrocarbons, contg. used catalyst, polymeric impurities and water, is passed to an absorption zone where it is sepd. into a light fraction, contg. most of the n-paraffins and some dialkyl sulphate and olefin, and a heavier fraction contg. most of the monoalkyl sulphate, acid, water and polymeric impurities, and a greater amt. of dialkyl sulphate than the light fraction; working up the dialkyl sulphate in the light fraction; and passing the whole of the alkyl sulphate and olefin in the light fraction and the whole of the alkyl sulphate in the heavy fraction, after working up, into the alkylation zone.
|
