A cargo ship 1 has displaceable shifting boards 100 located fore-and-aft and substantially aligned with the port and starboard hatch edges (e.g. coamings 6), a storage enclosure 22 wholly removed from the cargo space and means (e.g. a winch, cable 142, capstan 130 and pulley 132) for moving the boards the enclosure and their position in the cargo space as fore-and-aft bulkheads. The ship may have auxiliary hatch covers 8 to enable more of the cargo space to be utilized for cargo. An alternative form of shifting board is also shown comprising upper and lower panels which are drawn up beside each other in the enclosure 22.</p> |
