1302715 Laminated panel K T KUNSTSTOFFTECHNIK GmbH 14 May 1970 [16 May 1969] 23406/70 Heading B5N A method of making a lightweight structural panel comprises arranging a plurality of deformable hollow tubular core members 3 in a side-by-side parallel array between a pair of covering members 1, 2 to form a sandwich, applying a pressure to the sandwich to deform the core members, to cause the core members to contact the covering layers over planar areas and to cause adjacent core members to contact one another over planar areas, and causing adhesion between core members and covering layers and between adjacent core members at said planar areas. The members 3 which may be of circular section prior to the application of pressure may be made of reinforced plastics material and the covering layers of reinforced plastics materials, timber, metal or earthenware. When both the members and the covering layers are of reinforced plastics material, adhesion may be effected by curing of the plastics material; alternatively, adhesion may be effected by an adhesive or by fusion. The core members may be inflated and may be supported by inserts 4. In a preferred embodiment, shape defining members 8 which may be inflatable or non- inflatable may be disposed between the cores and the covering layers. |
