1295846 Hair-like filaments TOA BOSHOKU KK 18 Nov 1969 [12 June 1969] 56443/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Filaments suitable for use as imitation human hair are formed by melt spinning compositions comprising polypropylene or nylon, 0À5 to 10 weight per cent based on the polymer of at least one transparent extender pigment having a refractive index of less than 1À7 and in the form of particles of which at least 80 weight per cent have a diameter of 0À1 to 3À0 microns, and optionally a colour pigment. Preferred extender pigments are calcium and barium carbonates. The filaments may be stretched, e.g. at a ratio of 4:1 at 130‹ C., and set at a temperature of 135‹ C. The pigment particles are said to produce rhombic hollows in the filament surfaces, which reduce brilliance and slipperiness.
