1288643 Vehicle bumpers BUDD CO 10 Dec 1969 [11 Dec 1968] 60353/69 Heading B7J A vehicle bumper structure comprises an upper member 15, having a horizontal upper flange 16 and a generally vertical flange 17 extending therefrom, and a lower member 21 having a vertical central portion 23 from which extends a lower generally horizontal flange 29 and a Z-shaped part 27 having an upper vertical flange 26 spaced apart from the vertical flange 17 of the upper member and covered with a strip 31 of elastomeric material, the upper member overlapping the inner surface of the lower member and being secured thereto by welds at 25 so that rust streaks emanating from the weld connection drain down the inner surface of the lower member. The bumper structure is secured to the vehicle by brackets (only one shown in dotted lines) which engage the inner surfaces of the upper and lower members. The brackets are secured to the upper member by bolt means 45, a portion 47 of flange 26 being omitted to provide frontal access to the bolt means. |
