SINGLE ARC DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT WITH OPTI- CAL SWITCH FOR OPERATING HIGH AND LOW BEAM

PURPOSE: To provide both of a high beam pattern and a low beam pattern by means of a single arc by receiving light from a virtual image by means of a second lens having a center in the horizontal direction to a first lens and forming a high beam pattern in combination with a low beam pattern by means of the virtual image light passing through the second lens. CONSTITUTION: A light beam from an arc light source 14 is reflected by means of a reflection face 16 and passes through a prism lens 18 so as to form a low beam pattern. A wedge type mirror 22 is fixed in the top part plane of a reflector 12 so as to form a vertical virtual image of the arc light source 14. The arc virtual image generated by the mirror 22 appears as if a second arc light source arranged in the position shown by a dot line 24. The lens 18 is alternated so as to project an arc high beam image, and the outside part of the lens forms a desired low beam pattern on a road in front of a vehicle. For forming a high beam pattern, by means of a high beam lens 26 arranged in the horizontal direction central area of the prism lens 18, an expanded actual image of the vertical arc image is formed and projected.
