Foreign matter is cleared from a machine tool slideway 2 by a shoe 4 secured to a carriage 1, oil is pumped into a chamber 6 through an inlet 7, and escapes via an outlet 8 so as to scarify the slideway of the foreign matter. The face 9 of the shoe removes large foreign bodies, and the oil removes small foreign bodies. A shoe may be attached to each end of part 1. The carriage may be supported on hydrostatic pads 3 and a cavity 10 may be provided for venting and leakage of clearing oil for recirculation through a filter.</p> |
