A nozzle for dispensing liquids into a container comprises a housing 21 with inlet and outlet for the liquid and a rigid elongated tubular dispensing spout 32 attached to the outlet by a tubular mounting member 84 detachably secured to the housing outlet, a flow valve in the housing, gas-pressure responsive automatic shut-off means 33 for automatically closing the valve in response to a gas pressure signal, the shut-off means including means for causing gas to flow along a sensing conduit 41 which communicates at one end with a gas passage 46 in the housing and extends along the dispensing spout having adjacent the downstream end of the spout a sensing aperture 43 whereby when the sensing aperture is submerged in liquid a gas pressure operating signal is transmitted along the sensing conduit to operate the shut-off means, and safety valve means 75 interposed between the conduit and the gas passage in th housing arranged to be actuated by tilting the nozzle out of its dispensing orientation to transmit a gas-pressure operating signal to actuate the shut-off means, the safety valve means being located in the mounting member for the spout, the spout being detachably connected to the mounting member and provided adjacent said member with a mechanically weak safety portion 90 designed to break on application of excessive force. The shut-off means may be a conventional device, as described in Specification 687301 whereby submersion of the tube in 42 results in pressure reduction in the chamber 38 release of the lock 35 and closure of the main valve, the safety valve means comprising a gravity operated ball valve 75 operative on tilting the nozzle and mounted on the mounting member 84. The safety valve mans may be connected to the tube 41 by the flexible connector 44, either by adhesive means or as a press fit, and the conduit 32 may be provided with a safety groove 90.</p> |
