A tool cartridge 121 for a boring bar 130, Fig. 2, comprises a shank 150, a head 151 of generally rectangular form a cutting bit 163, a chip breaker 164, a clamp 165, and a carbide wear-preventing insert 161. The side 159 of the head is tapered from a maximum head width at the cutting end for co-operation with the head 136 of an adjusting screw 135.
