1,240,724. Reversible inserts. CARMET CO. 4 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 52243/68. Heading B3T. A reversible insert 10, preferably made of a cemented carbide, is wedge-shaped and has identical forwardly diverging upper and lower sides, 12 and 14 respectively, with the cutting end and the opposite end being perpendicular to the median plane of symmetry. The insert is held on a tool holder 44 by an eccentric pin 54 and locating pins 52 and (50), Fig. 8 (not shown). Instead of a forward face 20 the insert may have lateral sides converging to an edge which may be rounded or sharp. In a further modification the face 20 may be wider than the rear face 18 and ground to a suitable profile, Fig. 18 (not shown). The rear face 18 of the insert may be shaped, instead of having V- portions 40, 42, to fit onto conventional holders. |
