PURPOSE:To enhance a reduction in the withstand voltage of a first capacitor by connecting the first capacitor in parallel to the series connection of a second capacitor connected in parallel to a discharge resistance, a transformer, and a switch, and discharging the charge of the second capacitor during the OFF period of the switch. CONSTITUTION:In the pulse generator circuit of a high voltage discharge lamp, when a first capacitor C1 is charged by a DC voltage E0, the charged charge of the capacitor C1 is discharged through a second capacitor C2, the primary coil of a transformer PT, and a switch element SW1 by the ON of the switch element SW1, and a pulse voltage is generated in the transformer PT. The charge of the capacitor C2 charged by this discharge is discharged by a discharge resistance Z during the OFF period of the switch element SW1, or the charging period of the capacitor C1. Thus, the withstand voltage of the capacitor C1 can be reduced, compared with the case having no capacitor C2. |
