A textile web passes over a roller defined by two roller elements jined together at their inner ends by an articulated joint, and connected at their outer ends to mounting blocks, movable transversely to the plane of the web, pref. under the action of motor driven endless screws, so as to vary the orientation of the elements and vary the path lengths along which edge of the web travels. The mechanism connects diagonally or arcuately inserted weft picks.
