摘要 1,258,278. Laminates; phenolic fibres and filaments. CARBORUNDUM CO. 24 Sept., 1969 [3 Oct., 1968], No. 46943/69. Headings B5B and B5N. [Also in Divisions D1-D2] An insulating lining 4 comprising batting of phenolic fibres or filaments of a cured resin condensation product of a phenol and an aldehyde is secured to a metal shell 3 by anchors 5. The fibres may be made from resoles, which are thermosetting, from novolacs, which are cured by treatment with compounds such as aldehydes or hexamethylene tetramine, or from combinations thereof. The batting can be made self-supporting by treating the fibres so that they become secured to each other, e.g. by curing if uncured fibres are used, or by spraying with a thermosetting resin if cured fibres are used, or by packing the fibres to a sufficient density, e.g. 10<SP>-3</SP> to 1 gm./c.c. In an example, novolac filaments were made by heating a novolac to 135‹ C., drawing the resulting melt through an orifice and winding the filaments so produced on a spool. The uncured filaments had a slightly elliptical cross-section and were cured by immersion in a heated aqueous hydrochloric acid-formaldehyde solution.
