The production of polyurethanes employing organopolymercurials as the catalytic agent. The organomercuric catalyst has the formula R (Hg X)n wherein R is aryl, aralkyl, alkaryl, furyl, imidazolyl, oxazolyl, straight or branched alkyl or cyclic lower alkyl, or the halo, amido, lower alkozy, carboxy or nitro substituted derivatives thereof; X is an anion derived from benzoic acid, an alkanoic acid or an inorganic acid or a hydroxyl group; n is an integer of 2 to 4; and the mercury atoms are bound directly to the carbon atoms of the nucleus R.
