The yarn tensioner is for twisting machines, two-for-one twisters in partic., and incorporates a tubular brake housing equipped with a yarn inlet opening in its longitudinal middle axis on its topside. A brake area ring is incorporated within the brake opening at an axial distance from the yarn inlet opening. A disk-shaped brake body with edges curved in a convex is located above the ring and acts in conjuction with it. The ring features a guide surface which is located on the side facing the brake body and extends across the whole axial movement area of the brake body contact surfaces in an axially symmetrical manner.
