<p>Halogen complexes of disquaternary ammonium dihalides, defoliants, herbicides, germicides New cpds. are of formula I. in which R1 and R2 are C6-18 alkyl, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are C1-4 alkyl, Alk is C1-3 alkylene and Hal is halogen of mol. wt. between 35 and 80. I are useful as defoliants, esp. for defoliating cotton plants before mechanical harvesting, and are also useful as post-emergence herbicides, germicides, bactericides, fungicides and halogenating agents. As well as their agricultural uses, they may be used to purify water and air, and to treat paper and textiles. I are prepared by reacting the corres. diquaternary ammonium dihalides with halogen.</p> |
