[Also in Divisions C2 and C3] An adhesive for laminating rubber to metal comprises a halogenated natural or synthetic rubber and a curing agent of the formula wherein R is an aliphatic, substituted aliphatic, aromatic quinoid, or substituted aromatic quinoid group, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> are -O- or -OH, M is a metal cation, and n and q are positive integers. In the examples, the metal is iron or steel, the rubber is natural rubber or SBR, and the halogenated rubber is a blend of chlorinated natural rubber and a copolymer of 2,3 - dichlorobutadiene and α - bromo - acrylonitrile; other substituted acrylonitrile-substituted butadiene copolymers are mentioned, and the metal may also be aluminium. The adhesive is applied as a solution. |
